CURRENT ROUND: ROUND 3 - WINTER 2020/21
WHO CAN JOIN?
anyone! new writers, seasoned veterans, and anyone in between. all fandoms welcome.
WHEN DO WE START?
this round starts 12:01AM EST november 9th. don’t start tracking your word count until then! we want everyone to have an equal start, so please wait for that time to begin.
HOW DO I WIN?
write the most words, and/or complete the most fics! at the end of the event, the top three in each category will receive a gold, silver, and bronze medal, respectively. remember though: the end goal is making progress. we’ve given an option in the sign up forms to set personal goals, and we’ll give you a certificate and a shout out if you meet them.
CAN I COUNT WIPS I'VE ALREADY STARTED POSTING?
yes! only the words written during the event time period will count for your word count, but finishing partially published WIPs is part of the motivation for creating this event! completed works will count towards your WORKS goal even if you started posting before the event began.
DO CHAPTERS COUNT AS COMPLETED FICS?
no. only fully completed fics count as posted works, but all words written count for your word count numbers.
HOW DO YOU CONFIRM WORD COUNT OR FIC COMPLETION?
we’re running this entirely on the honor system! think of our event as similar to nanowrimo; we’re providing motivation, encouragement, and accountability, but it’s ultimately down to you, the writer. the contest aspect is just for fun, and for people who are motivated by competition.
DO I HAVE TO POST FICS I WRITE DURING THE EVENT TO THE WIP OLYMPICS AO3 COLLECTION?
nope! the collection is just there to make it easier to celebrate finished fics and for participants to comment and give kudos on their fellow writers’ work!
CAN I WORK ON FICS FOR ANOTHER FEST?
yes! please follow ALL rules for the other fest(s) (including anonymity!). before posting to the WIP olympics ao3 collection, make sure a) the fest you wrote for has revealed the fic (this likely means NOT adding it to our collection until AFTER they post the fic and reveal you as the author) and b) the mods for that fest are alright with you posting to multiple collections.
CAN I GET AN EXTENSION?
because of how this event is structured, we can’t grant extensions. if you wake up monday morning in a panic and realize you missed check in, contact us and we may be able to add you in, but please try to fill out check-in forms on time.
I WON'T BE AVAILABLE ON ONE OF THE WEEKENDS, CAN I CHECK IN EARLY THAT WEEK?
absolutely! if you need to check in early, let the mods know so we can send the check-in form to you in advance.
I'M GOING ON VACATION AND WON'T BE ABLE TO WRITE. CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?
yes! if you’re going to miss a week (or several!) that’s fine, you just won’t get any words or works completed in the official spreadsheet for that week.
